The Haunting

When I was growing up in a small town in the center of Wisconsin, I resided in a haunted house. I also had a vivid imagination so I couldn’t be sure of everything I’d seen and heard. Now that I’m an adult, I decided to explore- I wanted to find anyone who was in my house that may have had similar experiences, to compare with mine, and find some validation in what I had witnessed.

The first similarity was simple. A childhood neighbor found me on Facebook and asked if I remembered what had happened at my house, and how we spoke to spirits or angels or whatever they were. Validation number one.

In my twenties, I went on a road trip with my mother, and I brought up some experiences that I had when we were in the house. She asked me why I hadn’t mentioned it sooner, and told me of her experiences there. She also told me that she and my father bought that house for a great price, because of a suicide that had taken place in the basement. There was also a student that had lived in the house that had passed away when he was in second grade- although the incident didn’t happen in the house itself. This candid trip with my mother made a lot of sense to me. I felt like there were good and bad ‘unseen’ entities in that house. I figured the playful spirit was the good guy, and the other guy wasn’t always bad- just a bit in-your-face-frightening at times. This was my second validation.

To be fair, my older brother cannot for the life of him, remember a single ghostly moment while living in that house. I, however, remember playing games with the playful, younger-seeming spirit. I swear my brother played these games with me. We would open doors, go downstairs, yell, “Go!” and all the doors would close upstairs. How could one not remember that? I have to consider that it was my imagination. But that was one small occurrence among many. My imagination isn’t getting many points. I have witnesses when many of these occurrences took place. It was real.

My interest in the paranormal started in the second grade. I wrote stories then, and again in middle school that rattled my English teachers because of the amount of macabre detail I included. Today, I still write about the paranormal. I’m working on a script that deals with the paranormal in order to express my feelings, experiences, and wonderment for the possibilities of happenings outside the norm.

If you have witnessed paranormal occurrences, please feel free to share.
